Busy Day...

Kayli and I were eating lunch and getting ready to leave for school. I'd put a movie on for bubby. She finished her lunch, brushed her teeth and went to find her shoes. when she came back, she said, "mommy, i think Hudson is sleeping". I thought that impossible because it was only noon. We went into his room and there he was, sweating, sleeping, on the floor with Mr. Bear. So, we took some pictures and then had to wake him up. Needless to say that when it was nap time, at 1pm, he had a hard time falling asleep and when he did sleep it wasn't very long.

Then, at dinner, it started to pour rain. Kayli always asks to play in the rain and I hardly ever let her (I don't know why). So, I let her and bubby go out in the heavy rain. They ran and stomped in the puddles. I had to go get Hudson out of the rain when it started lightning and he wouldn't come back. But they had fun and DID NOT want to come inside.

Angels watching over me...

have you heard that old song by Amy Grant? that is what comes to mind after my encounter yesterday afternoon. i was trying to fall asleep on the couch while hudson napped. he had a cough and runny nose and all i could hear was him coughing, making it very difficult to sleep...thankfully (by the way no cough today or runny nose...hummm).

while resting a loud knock came at the front door...i jumped up to peak through the peep hole...did not recognize him so i just stared at him while he knocked again. i pretended not to be home while thinking, 'can he see my eye through the peep hole?' i went back to the couch listening to him knock on my neighbor's door. then, once again, he came back to my door and gave it a very loud, assertive knock. i kept thinking to myself, "no one is home, go away!'.

well, the next thing i knew, two young guys jumped over my balcony (all my blinds were pulled closed so they did not see me in the living room) and preceded to walk towards the glass door leading to the dinning room. knowing that door was unlocked, i jumped from the couch, grabbed my keys and ran to lock the deadbolt (there is no lock on the doorknob). i did not reach the door in time and found myself struggling to keep the door pulled closed while one of them, with gloves, fought the resistance on the other side. i pushed the blinds on the door aside to let them know that someone was in fact home. they bolted and took off running away from the apartment.

still startled, shocked, and shaking, i called the police and the front office. the officers took my information and looked around but they were gone. i then called g to let him know. after a few dropped calls, i was finally able to relay the whole story to him. he was in AZ for a conference (he'd just arrived) and promptly took care of getting the next flight back...my knight in shinning armor was on his way!

needless to say, this really scared me to death...however i couldn't help but think about all the what if's. i have come to the realization that we were so protected yesterday. they did not push their way in, no one was hurt, and my kids were either not here or sleeping and are out of the loop on the whole thing (which would have caused nightmares for sure). the Lord, for sure, had His hands on us! who knows why things like that have to happen at all? i don't know, what i do know is that this happened and i am so thankful to the Lord that He took care of us and am sure that He is watching over us ever minute of every day!

we are having an alarm system put in soon!

Family, Finally Here!

Thank you, Lord!!! We've prayed for years and finally the Ohio Slaydens have moved close by. They were in Owasso with us this past weekend and we so totally enjoyed being with them. The kids just enjoyed being together and playing grandma's Wii...making mii's (?). Anyway, they are 2 1/2 hrs. from Owasso and about that away from KS. We are planning many, many trips together and lots of get-togethers around here as well. We even drove back this way together on sun. afternoon and had dinner together in Joplin before parting ways!!! It was GREAT. I am excited that only a few weeks will separate family visits! Here are just a few pictures of the kids together!

this picture is extra...a bonus for everyone who loves pictures of kayli and hudson in bed together as much as i do!!

First Day of School!!!

Well, it finally came...Kayli's first day of school. She is in afternoon Kindergarten at the elementary school around the corner. G came home early yesterday so we could all go. I was a little concerned because they told me that the teacher would come get them and take them to the room....I really wanted to be able to take her and drop her off at the room...well, the teacher came out and said that the parents could go back just this once.

We went back with her and helped her find her seat and encouraged her to have a good day and be nice...she was brave, she didn't cry. And when I picked her up, she said she had a GREAT day and that it went by fast. She didn't make any friends yet, she told me.

To help celebrate her first day we went to culvers and had ice cream. We met a little grasshopper there and shared our excitement of the first day with him. We had a good time!!! Not the first day jitters are over and we expect a GREAT year!

Tagged...officially....by Annie...

I was tagged by Annie and I used the tagged questions from katie's blog....ask your child the questions and post the answers. I decided to ask kayil and not hudson...he still isn't talking much!! but, good news, he did say a new word today...backpack (you may not know that was what he was saying if you heard it, but, a mommy knows!!).

What does Mommy always say to you? um, be careful with bubby

What makes Mommy happy? me obeying you...? (sounded like she wasn't sure it was the right answer)

What makes Mommy sad? me not obeying you...?

How does Mommy make you laugh? by tickling me and telling me jokes!

How old is mommy? 8

How tall is Mommy? um, let me see....130 feet tall (wow!!)

What does Mommy like to do? you uh, like to, play with us and kiss daddy (oh yeah!)

What does Mommy not like to do? you don't like to give me swats.

What is Mommy's job? to take care of us and give us food (notice she did not say, cook us food) and protect food so it won't get stolen (???).

How do you know Mommy loves you? because you tell me and you have mercy on me sometimes (those lessons are getting in!)

Too sweet...I also looooooooooove those pages you get back from school that they have asked the questions of your child and make for you. For Father's Day this year they asked Kayli all kinds of questions about g and made a little book for him. One of the questions was 'what is your daddy's favorite tv show?' Kayli's answer??? Dancing with the Stars!! (which, by the way, he doesn't watch!!) Ha! That made me laugh.

I love my sweet little girl who is more like me than she will ever admit!
